Gabby Thomas expressed admiration for Simone Biles and her wisdom despite being the same age as the sprinter. Thomas also shared that she was most excited about meeting the 30-time World medalist at the Paris Olympics.
Thomas debuted at the Tokyo Olympics, winning bronze in the 200m and achieving silver as part of the 4x100m relay team. Fresh off her 200m victory at the London Diamond League, the 27-year-old graced the Paris Olympics, where she claimed the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relay titles.
After her successful campaign concluded, Thomas was honored as the Grand Marshal at the last of the six World Marathon Majors, the New York City Marathon. During her time at the NYC event, she sat for a candid conversation with All on the Run Show, hosted by Ali Feller, and talked about meeting gymnastics icon Simone Biles at the Paris Olympics.
"I've always been a Simone fan, I've been such a fan, and even more so after Tokyo and watching her advocate for herself and advocate for every athlete and human who struggles with mental health," Gabby Thomas said. (17:17 onwards)
She further talked about the meaningful advice Biles shared with her during the Indiana Fevers WNBA game they both attended.
"I got to chat with her and just share our Paris experiences and just talking about the pressure and what life is like after gold, and Simone is someone who's been in this game for a long time. She's been a winner for a long time, and she shared just so much advice with me. She shared with me how to advocate for myself, how it's okay to say no."
She added:
"She's had so much wisdom to share with me, even though we're the same age, but she was absolutely incredible... she's further ahead in her career than I am, athletically, and so I really felt like I got to learn from her, and it was really meaningful and impactful for me."
Biles, who competed in her third Games in Paris, won gold medals in the team, all-around and vault, besides taking silver in the floor exercise.
Gabby Thomas shared the story of how she and Simone Biles surprised the Indiana Fever girls at a WNBA game
In an interview with NBC, the three-time Olympic gold medalist narrated how she and the seven-time Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles, hid beside the Indiana Fever locker room to surprise the girls, leaving Caitlin Clark floored.
"We were hiding next to their locker room and waiting for them to run out. The entire team was floored and Caitlin was so shocked," she said to NBC.
She added:
"It's so fun to see the support and excitement that athletes have for one another."
Gabby Thomas competed in the 200m at the 2024 Athlos NYC but finished behind Brittany Brown. On the other hand, Biles concluded her Gold Over America tour on November 3, 2024.
