Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opens up on her decision to retire after the Paris Olympics
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce made her Olympic debut in Beijing and has been a part of the track circuit for over 15 years. The Jamaican athlete came forward as one of the most dominating athletes of all time holding the record for the third-fastest 100m by a female athlete with a personal best of 10.60s.
She spoke to essence.com about her decision to bid adieu to the sport after an illustrious career as an athlete with the Paris Olympics as her final appearance on track as a professional.
“There’s not a day I’m getting up to go practise and I’m like, ‘I’m over this’. My son needs me. My husband and I have been together since before I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me. We’re a partnership, a team. And it’s because of that support that I’m able to do the things that I have been doing for all these years. And I think I now owe it to them to do something else,” she said.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be making her fifth Olympic appearance in Paris in a quest for the pinnacle crown one last time.
