Shericka Jackson shared her plans to run a season-best at the upcoming 2024 Oslo Diamond League, dubbed Bislett Games, in the build-up to the Jamaica Olympic Trials. The second-fastest woman in the 200m, Jackson won her 200m season opener at the 2024 Marrakech Diamond League.
Shericka Jackson, 29, unfurled victory at the 2023 World Championships with her 200m gold finish. She also swept the 100m and 4x100m relay silver in the event. Coming into 2024, Shericka Jackson initially planned to kick off her Olympic season with the JAAA/Puma/Fuller/Anderson Development Meet. But she pulled out, followed by a withdrawal from the Grace Jackson/Queen's Development Meet.
Moreover, her absence in the Miramar Invitational and Suzhou Diamond League rosters pushed her 200m plans further. However, the consecutive retreats were covered up by her Marrakech Diamond League 22.82s gold finish.
Girding up to race against promising names like Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith and Daryll Neita, Shericka Jackson has unveiled her plans of running a season-best ahead of the Oslo Diamond League. In a pre-race interview with Wanda Diamond League, the four-time World champion talked about building up to the Jamaica Trials next month, taking one step at a time.
"Just to go there and compete at my best. Definitely looking forward to a season-best tomorrow, but for me, it's building to the Jamaica Trials, which comes up next month. I think it's one step at a time. Once I finish healthy tomorrow and as I said, my go tomorrow is to get a season-best. Definitely, I'm in way better shape than I was probably two weeks. Looking forward to great things."
In 2023, the Olympic gold medalist ran in a remarkable time of 21.41s, breaking her national record (21.45s), marking her season-best, and clocking the second-fastest time in history. She also looks forward to repeating the feat in the Olympic year.
"I definitely hope I will achieve it" - Shericka Jackson on winning an individual Olympic gold
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Shericka Jackson, the fifth fastest woman in the 100m, soared to victory in the 4x100m relay, along with her teammates Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah. However, having missed the individual gold podium, she wishes to achieve a gold medal rather than break a world record.
"I have not had an individual gold medal in the Olympic Games. "In 2021 (in Tokyo) I wanted one and I did not even make it to the 200, so definitely it's something that I'm looking forward to, something I'm working towards. I definitely hope I will achieve it by the end of the coming Olympics." (via AFP)
After competing at the Oslo Diamond League, the Olympian will face the same contenders at the Stockholm Diamond League, slated for June 2, 2024.
