Shericka Jackson dominated the 100m final at the Jamaican Olympic trials, winning it after clocking 10.84 seconds. Tia Clayton and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finished second and third respectively, with times of 10.90 and 10.94.
The trio has been in good form in the trials, with Jackson dominating in the preliminaries, clocking 10.99 before finishing second behind Clayton in the semifinal with a timing of 10.87.
Fraser-Pryce, the 10-time world champion, dominated the preliminaries and semifinal, winning both in 10.98 and 10.91 before her third-place finish in the final. Nonetheless, she has booked her slot for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Shericka Jackson has raced sparingly this season in the 100m and some fans were in awe of her performance in the final, considering it was only but her fourth race over the distance.
However, others expressed worry about the slow times run and compared her form to Sha’Carri Richardson’s, who clocked a world lead of 10.71 in the US Olympic trials final.
One fan noted that the Richardson would have an easy time winning gold at the Olympic Games:
"Shacarri Gold Easy," the fan said.
Another fan wrote:
"I think Sha’Carri remains the favourite for the 100 based on that performance. But there’s still time for Shericka to improve."
"USA might sweep gold & silver," another fan tweeted.
Here are some more fan reactions:
"Shericka is back 🔥," a fan tweeted.
"Shericka for another Jamaican double in Paris," another chimed in.
"Shericka Jackson looks like she’s chilling! 🤔🧐," a fan wrote.
Shericka Jackson keen on avoiding costly mistake at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as she heads to Paris Olympics
Shericka Jackson missed out on semifinal qualification at the Tokyo Olympics after slowing down near the finish line during the 200m heats.
In an interview with Athletics Weekly, Jackson admitted to having learned from the incident, disclosing that it was something she could have learned from the Diamond League Meetings but it was unfortunate that it had to happen when she was at the Olympics.
"It was a really tough learning experience and the sad part of it is that I learned at the Olympic Games and it was something I could have at the Diamond League," Jackson said.
"I would say that it’s part of the game and I think I have learned from the mistake and I have definitely grown over the years."
Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson delayed her season opener and raced her first 100m of the season at the JAAA All Comers Series #1, winning the race in 11.03.
Jackson then launched her Diamond League Meeting campaign in the 200m at the Meeting in Rabat with a 22.82 win before a disappointing fifth-place finish in Oslo in 22.97. The Jamaican sprint queen then bounced back with a win in Stockholm, clocking 22.69 to cross the finish line.
At the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the two-time world 200m champion won a bronze medal in the 100m and a gold medal in the 4x100m relay. She was also part of the Jamaican 4x400m relay team that won bronze.
