American gymnastics icon Simone Biles has a star-studded lineup of the USA Basketball Team, including LeBron James, ready to cheer for her at the Paris Olympics, and they are willing to go to any lengths to watch her perform.
Biles secured her ticket to the third consecutive Summer Games on Sunday, June 30, at the two-day US Olympic trials organized in the Target Center in Minneapolis. She scored 117.225 to win the all-around event and confirm a berth in the seven-member US Olympics gymnastics team, which includes two alternates.
During the floor exercise routine at the trials, Biles stunned the sports world as she executed a mammoth 12-foot vertical jump with ease, which could challenge the abilities of even one of the tallest basketball players, Victor Wembanyama's top vertical leap of 10 feet.
Life came full circle for the 27-year-old gymnast as the American basketball team selected for the Paris Olympics applauded Biles' athleticism and expressed their wish to watch her groundbreaking routines at the French spectacle. The legendary Lakers forward and Team USA member Lebron James expressed his admiration for Biles, and said (via AP News):
"She’s the best. It’s that simple. She’s the best."
Furthermore, Indiana Pacers' point guard and a part of the American team for the Olympics, Tyrese Haliburton, stated that he would go to any extent to purchase the tickets for Biles' performance.
"I heard it’s really expensive to get in. But I think I can make that work," said Haliburton
Another American basketball legend, Kevin Durant, praised Simone Biles for her remarkable consistency even at this stage of her career and stated:
"I was talking to a gymnast the other day and I didn’t know their peak is from like 15 to like 18 or 19 or something like that. So, for her to be at that age and still elite, of course, yeah, I want to go check her out. I’ve always been a fan of what she was doing."
When Simone Biles attended the Houston Rockets vs Los Angeles Lakers game
Simone Biles often attends various cross-sport events to extend her support to her favorite athletes and teams. This year, in March, Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, visited Texas' Toyota Center to witness the matchup between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The couple took center stage at the arena, and Biles was seen holding a placard with "Score: 10.0" written on it. The Rockets impressed the seven-time Olympic champion as they won the game 135-119.
With all that being said, Biles is now gearing up to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024, which is just 17 days away. She aims for the Tokyo Olympic redemption, where she pulled out of multiple events to prioritize her mental health.
