Renowned artistic gymnast Simone Biles recently tried her hands at the Gymnast Grip Strength Challenge. She took on the challenge alongside fellow gymnasts during the rehearsals of the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT). In the tour, American gymnastics stars, joined by top international names, are performing across various American cities to display their exceptional skills and inspire future generations.
The Gold Over America Tour, which began after the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics, kicked off on September 17 and will end on November 3. At the quadrennial games held in Paris, Biles added four more medals, including three golds and one silver, to her previously existing collection, taking her overall Olympic medal count to 11.
With her remarkable show at the Paris Olympics, Biles also became the most decorated USA gymnast at the Olympic Games. The 27-year-old achieved the feat by contributing to the nation’s all-around team gold at this year’s Summer Games by surpassing Shannon Miller, who had previously collected seven medals.
Recently, during the GOAT rehearsals, Biles took the strength test using a Dynamometer Hand Grip measurement meter along with other gymnasts such as Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, Joscelyn Roberson, Paul Juda, Shane Wiskus, Brody Malone, and Ian Gunther.
However, the 23-time World Championships gold medalist achieved a low score of 60 lbs. In the video uploaded by Gunther on his Instagram, she was captured calling the score ‘Oh that’s so weak’.
She later shared her emotions in the same post's comments, writing:
“I’m embarrassed hahahahaahahaha”
However, Simone Biles went on to add that despite the low score, she would still consider it, saying:
“but to be fair that’s more than half my body weight soooooooo I’ll take it”
Among the female gymnasts, Hezly Rivera, Joscelyn Roberson, and Peng-Peng Lee, achieved scores of 82 lbs, 74 lbs, and 81 lbs, respectively.
Simone Biles opens up on what makes the Gold Over America Tour special
In an interaction with the New England Sports Network (NESN), Simone Biles shared that children could resonate with the gymnasts as they interact with their idols through the Gold Over America Tour. She believed that this made the tour’s shows incredibly special, adding (1:24 onwards):
“I'm excited that we have the Gold Over America Tour to just share our stories, have representation and so that the kids can really resonate with us not just as the huge athletes they see on the TV, but really up close and personal. I think that's what's so special about our show is we really get to be super close with them, cheer with them, have fun, say hi, wave, and interact and so that every fan sees like, feels seen and heard.”
Notably, Biles first launched the show following the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021. The 2024 edition is the second installment of the tour, taking place in an even grander way.
