Simone Biles has once again hit back at critics who had called the star gymnast to ‘leave’ husband Jonathan Owens after last year’s ‘catch’ comment controversy.
Ownes had appeared on a podcast, Pivot, in December last year and claimed that men were always the catch in a relationship.
“I always say that the men are the catch’, the NFL quarterback had claimed.
However, his opinion didn't go down well, neither with the fans nor the media, who heavily criticized the Chicago Bears player. But amid all the chaos, Simone Biles publicly supported Jonathan Owens. She even posted a picture of a confused child on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Are y'all done yet?”
It's been over 5 months since the incident, but the NFL quarterback's comment section is still filled with hate. And so is of Biles, where people call on the reigning world champion to ‘leave’ her husband. However, not only has Biles regularly defended Owens, but she has now given a befitting reply to the critics.
Simone Biles used a trending TikTok template where creators cut a piece of tape with a girl's voice in the background saying:
"This is for your mouth. Let me know if you need a bigger piece"
Biles acted in perfect sync with the trend and called on the critics to shut their mouths. In the video she posted on her Instagram story, the 27-year-old had written several comments she regularly sees from people in her, and Owens' comment section. Some of them were:
"Mr. Biles", "Simone & what's his name again", "leave him sis" and "Still don't know his name."
Simone Biles recalls breaking down due to heavy criticism of Jonathan Owens on the internet
Simone Biles recently appeared on the popular American podcast, Call Her Daddy, and clarified her husband Jonathan Owens’ ‘catch’ comment. The 27-year-old claimed that the NFL quarterback hadn't said Biles wasn't a catch. Instead, she defended his comment, saying that he was a ‘catch’ because she had never met a man like Owens in her life.
"He said he was a catch because he is. I've never met a man like him", Biles claimed.
The 4x Olympic gold medalist also revealed that she had deemed the criticism as ‘hilarious’ at first. But when the trolling went over the limit, she eventually ‘broke down'.
"I thought it was hilarious what people were saying divorce him, divorce him. Then, like, one night, I broke down, and I'm like, 'Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?'", Biles revealed.
