Simone Biles shared that she was allotted a room with Jade Carey, a fellow gymnast and Olympian, at the Olympic Village. Biles has stepped into Paris as the heavy favorite after finishing on top with 117.225 in the all-around at the 2024 US Olympic Trials.
Simone Biles pulled herself out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to 'twisties', a situation where the gymnast's body and mind don't coordinate in mid-air. She only earned the bronze in the balance beam in that event. Jade Carey, the three-time world gold medalist, meanwhile, swept the gold in the floor exercise and was part of the silver-winning team.
In a recent Instagram story, Simone Biles shared that she was sharing her room with Carey at the Olympic Village.
"goodnight roomie @jadecarey," her caption read.
The story captured Jade Carey in a boomerang, waving to the Olympian's camera sitting on the bed at the other side of the room. Biles' bed had a Team USA and Olympic-themed bedsheet to match the purpose of her visit to the French capital.
Simone Biles and her team landed in France on July 19 and the following three days (July 20, 21, and 22) went by in training sessions before they headed to the Olympic Village. In the last couple of days, Team USA captured all the members of the women's gymnastics team refining their skills in the gym.
Biles was spotted performing her signature Yurchenko Double Pike on the vault, which was named Biles II at the 2023 World Championships. The five women were also captured performing on the uneven bars in a set of monochrome pictures posted on USA Gymnastics' Instagram page.
Simone Biles - "I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders"
Among the five members of the women's team, four of them, Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles, will head to the second consecutive Olympics as teammates.
Both Suni Lee and Biles named their upcoming Paris Olympic stint as 'a redemption tour' since the USA won the team silver at the Tokyo Olympics after earning gold at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
Biles shared that the women have a lot to prove in Paris since Tokyo didn't have them at their best.
"I feel like we all have more to give, and our Tokyo performances weren’t the best. We weren’t under the best circumstances, either. But I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we’re better athletes. We’re more mature. We’re smarter. We’re more consistent," Biles said. (via NBC Sports)
The three-time Olympic gold medalist will look to win five more golds to extend her Olympic gold tally to nine.
