On the occasion of National Gymnastics Day, American athletes, including Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, and others express their love for the sport. The National Gymnastics Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of September, which falls on Saturday, September 21 in 2024.
The first National Gymnastics Day in the USA was observed in the 1990s and is celebrated every year since then to raise awareness about the sport while encouraging young kids to take it up. America has a rich legacy of successful gymnasts, including Biles, Mary Lou Retton, Suni Lee, Aly Raisman, Dominique Moceanu, and Nadia Comaneci.
On the occasion of the recent National Gymnastics Day, Biles conveyed her love for the sport by resharing a picture posted by coach Cecile Landi, featuring the most decorated U.S. gymnast, Raisman, and more. The caption of the picture read:
"Happy National Gymnastics Day 2024! Grateful for the amazing memories and looking forward to more."
Chiles also shared a video of herself performing the vault routine and wrote,
"A skill I never not get to compete."
She missed the spot to compete in the vault final at the Paris Olympics after placing fourth in the qualifying round as only two gymnasts per nation were allowed for medal contention, which was grabbed by Biles and Lee.
Hezly Rivera shared a picture of herself competing in a competition in her initial years and wrote,
"Happy National Gymnastics Day to the sport I love and made me who I am❤️."
Leanna Wong penned a heartfelt note on the occasion of National Gymnastics Day, attributing her life to the sport and wrote,
"The sports that has taught me life lessons, determination, hard work, teamwork, perseverance, patience, gratitude, trust, and brought me challenges, opportunities, friendships, support, and the list goes on."
Skye Blakely and Shilese Jones observed the Day too:
"I know how important that is for me to be mentally and physically well" - Simone Biles emphasizes mental health after Olympic Games
Simone Biles secured four medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including three gold and one silver medal.
Having the experience of navigating a wave of emotions after the Tokyo Games, she was prepared for the post-Paris Olympics life. In an interview with Vogue, she emphasized her physical and mental health, stating she would be continuing therapy sessions.
“A lot of athletes, unfortunately, since this is the biggest stage of their life–there’s this thing called post-Olympic Depression," she said.
"For me, I’ll still be attending my therapy sessions, because I know how important that is for me to be mentally and physically well. So I’ll be ready for my appointments, back to regularly scheduled programming."
Simone Biles bagged gold medals in all-around and vault and a silver medal in floor exercise in the French capital.
