Simone Biles recently conveyed her heartfelt thanks to her husband, Jonathan Owens, when she was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year. She attended the red carpet for the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards held in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

The legendary gymnast was recognized for her incredible run at the 2024 Paris Games, where she secured three gold and one silver medal. Biles attended the event in a long-sleeved, tan, blinged-out mini-dress, which she paired with diamond studs and a sleek diamond neckpiece.

Biles' husband Owens opted for a classic tan suit, which he paired with clean white sneakers. The latest recognition made her the most awaited speaker on Tuesday. In her speech, the American gymnast gave a special mention to her other half.

"To my husband Jonathan, thank you for being with me through the highs and the lows and always being by my side no matter what," Biles said. (0:59 onwards)

After having started dating around 2020, the gymnast-NFL player couple got engaged in February 2022. A year later, the couple exchanged their wedding vows in an intimate courthouse ceremony in Houston, Texas. A month later, the two again exchanged vows during a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

After receiving the honor from Sports Illustrated, Simone Biles stated how having started gymnastics at a tender age, she never expected to achieve so much. She now feels she has surpassed those dreams while recognizing there's little left to prove, and she knows when it's time to step back.

“When I started doing gymnastics when I was six, I never imagined winning medals and everything I’ve been fortunate enough to do up until this point. I just wanted to have fun and, hopefully, get a college scholarship,” Biles expressed in her speech. "I kind of surpassed all of that, which is super exciting. But every day that I spend competing alongside my teammates is truly a gift."

She added:

"I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.” (via Sports Illustrated)

Simone Biles is likely to be seen competing at the Gymnastics World Championships in 2025.
