Simone Biles shared her view of the presidential election, claiming that US citizens deserved a better leader than Donald Trump. Biles was vocal about her support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on Election Day.
Biles, 27, achieved success at the 2024 Paris Olympics, extending her Olympic medal count to 11 and surpassing seven-time Olympic medalist and former US gymnast Shannon Miller. Her total medals earned across the Olympics and World Championships earned her the honor of being the greatest gymnast in history. The Texas native also won her ninth National Championships all-around title in 2024.
Boasting a successful gymnastic career, Simone Biles enounced her support for Kamala Harris, who was head-on with the Republican, Donald Trump. However, Trump triumphed over Harris with 277 electoral votes, leaving the 30-time World medalist devastated.
"We deserve better," she wrote in her Threads handle, pairing with a broken heart emoji.
In another Threads post, she apologized to the American citizens, writing:
"I’m SO sorry america"
Simone Biles also took to her X post to issue a strong message to US President Joe Biden, requesting some changes in the system before his White House tenure ends on January 20, 2025.
"Mr Biden, I need you to stand up, straighten your back and make some things shake before your departure. xoxo the women in America," her caption read.
Simone Biles then slammed Trump's followers on her Instagram story, sharing a post that read:
"Over 71 million people voted for a President that's been found liable for sexual abuse."
Biles wrote in response:
"this y'all?"
Biles won gold medals in the team, all-around, and vault, and silver in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Simone Biles testified before the Senate, describing the abuse she suffered at the hands of Dr. Larry Nassar
Biles was one of the many gymnasts who was a victim of USA Gymnastics team physician, Larry Nassar during her early gymnastics days. She joined the likes of Aly Raisman, Maggie Nichols, and Mckayla Maroney to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2021, addressing the FBI's mishandling of the case since Nassar resumed treatment in 2016 even after assault allegations in 2015.
"We suffered and continue to suffer because no one at FBI, USAG or the USOPC did what was necessary to protect us. We have been failed, and we deserve answers. Nassar is where he belongs, but those who enabled him deserve to be held accountable. If they are not, I am convinced that this will continue to happen to others across Olympic sports," she said. Biles also broke down while detailing the horrors of the abuse.
"I don't want another young gymnast, or Olympic athlete, or any individual to experience the horror that I and hundreds of others have endured before, during, and continuing to this day in the wake of the Larry Nassar abuse.."
Biles successfully ended her 30-city Gold Over America tour in Detroit, Michigan, on November 3, 2024. She launched the tour after withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, citing 'twisties.'
