Simone Biles recently shared her thoughts on if she would be able to dunk a basketball. Biles is renowned for being the most successful gymnast in the history of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships with an overall 30 medals, including 23 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Although Biles is just 4 feet and 8 inches in height, she can soar up to 12 feet above the ground while executing her routine on the floor exercise. This moment was captured during the 2024 US Olympic Gymnastics Trials and shared on X (formerly Twitter).
During the 2024 Gold Over America Tour rehearsals, Biles shared her thoughts about whether she would be able to dunk a basketball in a video uploaded by Ian Gunther on Instagram. She said:
“No”
However, she added that she may be able to do it if there were a spring floor, saying:
“I would have to do a roundoff back handspring. Half turn, jump into it and then maybe.”
Besides Biles, other gymnasts also shared their opinions on whether the seven-time Olympic gold medalist could dunk. Gunther, Jordan Chiles, Yul Moldauer, Casimir Schmidt, Ellie Black, Hezly Rivera, Paul Juda, and Fred Richard believed she could achieve it.
Moldauer’s reaction caught the attention of Biles' fans as he said:
“It doesn’t matter how big you are. It matters how big your heart is. I’m never gonna bet against Simone.”
However, Joscelyn Roberson, the USA team’s alternate for the Paris Olympics, believed Simone Biles wouldn’t be able to pull it off, saying:
“No. A basketball court is no spring. She is my height. I’m sorry, Simone. I don’t think so.”
The Gold Over America Tour, which began on September 16, took a break from October 21 to October 26, and will resume on October 27 with a show in Cleveland, Ohio. Featuring outstanding performances by some of the world’s top gymnastics stars, the tour is set to conclude on November 3 in Detroit.
