Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time, having won a combined total of 41 Olympic and World Championships medals, most of them gold. Recently, the American gave fans an insight into her life away from the gym as she shared a photo of her new look, which included a braided hairstyle, a black leather jacket, and a pair of black glasses.
For Biles, 2024 had been a year of redemption in the gym. After withdrawing from five event finals at the 2020 Tokyo Games, the 27-year-old returned to the Olympic stage earlier this year.
At the Paris Olympics, she proved that she was still the best of the best, helping the USA reclaim the team gold and winning the all-around and vault finals while settling for silver on the floor behind Brazil's Rebecca Andrade.
Away from the mat, the gymnast’s year has seen her complete the second iteration of her ‘Gold Over America' Tour and release a Netflix documentary about herself. Now, as Simone Biles enjoys the last remaining days of 2024, she recently debuted a new look. Taking to Instagram, she shared a snap of herself sporting braids and a black leather jacket.
Simone Biles on learning to love her hair
While Simone Biles is flaunting her new hairstyle with confidence now, the gymnast wasn't always so comfortable about her hair. In an interview with Elle before the Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old revealed that she previously struggled with her hair being considered unprofessional, saying,
“I’m finally learning to love my hair and the texture that I have and the styles that I can do. I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional. But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore.”
Biles also went on to add how social media influencers helped her learn how to manage her hair, saying,
“Nobody taught me [how to do my hair]. I always went to the professionals. We’ve been able to take care of our hair better and take care of our beauty routines better, because it’s self-taught. It’s really special that we have access to those platforms.”
Outside of her success at the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles’ 2024 also saw her dominate the domestic circuit. Upon her season debut at the US Classic, she won the all-around and floor exercise events. She later went on to claim a clean sweep of all the podiums at the US Championships, including a record-extending ninth all-around title.
