Simone Biles' sister Adria shared heartwarming wishes for her parents Ronald and Nellie on the occasion of their 48th wedding anniversary. Simone and Adria were adopted by them when they were aged six and four, respectively.
Nellie Biles, who is the second wife of Ronald, celebrated the occasion by posting a selfie of them on her Instagram handle on January 16th. Expressing her gratitude on nearing the fifth decade of their marriage, she wrote:
"HAPPY 48th ANNIVERSARY Ron. blessed that we can share this and every morning still starts with I love you."
Adria reposted the picture on her Instagram stories and shared a heartfelt note, claiming that she wanted a similar long-lasting marriage for herself.
"grateful to come from a love like this. This is why my expectations are high. If it's not like this I don't want it!!!!"
Simone Biles also shared her best wishes for the couple, writing:
"Happy 48th anniversary. My parents are so cute."
Ronald was a single dad to Simone Biles' mother, Shanon, when he married Nellie in January 1977. The couple went on to have two sons, Ronald Jr. and Adam, before adopting Simone and Adria in 2003.
Shanon and her husband, Kelvin Clemons, struggled with severe alcohol and drug addiction and were unable to take care of their children, who even struggled for food. They were sent to foster care before Ronald and Nelie adopted them three years later.
"I remember praying for that bonding" - Simone Biles' adoptive mother on struggling to cater emotionally to the gymnast after adoption
Speaking during an appearance on the Facebook Watch Series 'Simone vs Herself' in 2021, Simone Biles' mother Nellie revealed that she struggled to cater emotionally to the gymnast during the initial days of the adoption. However, she wanted to be there for her and used to pray for a strong bond between them.
"I knew I had my own barriers because these were not my biological children. You do everything that's nurturing, that's mothering but emotionally you still have to be there 100% and I was not."
"I remember praying for that bonding because telling them that you love them and care for them, that's all words. But then you wake up one day and you realize that you would do anything for these children and that you would die for these children and when that feeling comes, that's when you know you're truly a mother," she said.
Nellie and Ronald enrolled Simone in an optional training program at Bannon's Gymnastix shortly after adopting her in 2003, and the 27-year-old gymnast is now widely considered the greatest of all time.
