Simone Biles picked time spent with her husband Jonathan Owens as the highlight of her year over the Paris Olympics and Gold Over America Tour. The gymnast married Owens in April 2023 after dating for three years.
Biles was yet again at her best in the 2024 season, and after dominating the national competitions, the 27-year-old secured four medals at the Paris Olympics. She won the gold medal in team, all-around, and vault competitions and a silver in the controversial floor exercise finals.
The three-time Olympian later toured 32 stops while leading the Gold Over America Tour. Yet, her highlight of the year was spending 'quality time' with her NFL husband.
Speaking with E! News in an interview, Biles explained that they had been doing long-distance since their marriage last year, and after reuniting with Owens in Chicago, she was cherishing their togetherness.
"Honestly, since my husband and I got married we’ve been doing long-distance. After the Olympics and my tour, I would say the highlight has been spending quality time with him for the first time in the longest time since we’ve been married. Just cherishing those times, moving into our house in Chicago, and making it our home," she said.
Biles and Owens met in 2020 through an online dating platform, Raya, and after dating for three years, the couple tied the knot in two separate wedding ceremonies in April and May 2023. Soon after, the gymnast was occupied with her comeback at the World Championships last year which was followed by the start of the Paris Olympics' preparations.
Owens also expressed joy on finally getting to spend time with his wife in an interview with Fox 32 Chicago last month. The Chicago Bears safety also revealed they are big foodies and are always on the lookout for a nice restaurant.
Simone Biles shares her plans for 2025 season
Following the end of Simone Biles' campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics, there were speculations about the gymnast retiring from the sport at the end of the season. While the 27-year-old has since confirmed she is here to stay for now, her participation in the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships still remains doubtful.
Speaking during the aforementioned interview, the gymnast was asked about her plans for the new year and interestingly, the seven-time Olympic champion didn't mention her training.
"Besides relaxing and going on a couple of vacations with my husband, I'm really just trying to be involved in the community as much as I can as well as giving back," Simone Biles said.
With 11 Olympic and 30 World medals, the 27-year-old is the most decorated gymnast in history and even if she decides to put a stop to the count now, Biles will arguably be considered the greatest gymnast of all time.
