Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens grabbed the spotlight at the 2024 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson Person of the Year Awards in matching outfits. The couple graced the Sports Illustrated red carpet for the first time.
Biles was wearing a sparkly minidress that turned heads while Owens matched the gymnast with a tan suit. The couple were all smiles while posing for the cameras with the seven-time Olympic champion getting extra limelight.
Biles was named the winner of the award last week following a phenomenal season in 2024. Alongside dominating the domestic competitions including the Olympic Trials, the 27-year-old became the oldest gymnast in 75 years to win the all-around title at the Paris Olympics. She won three golds and one silver medal in the French capital.
The eleven-time Olympic medalist was elated after being named the winner and vowed to continue to inspire the next generation of gymnasts.
I'm Simone Biles and I'm so excited to be Sportsperson of the Year. I think it's such a huge honor and a blessing that I have paved the way for the younger generations in gymnastics and hopefully will continue to do so," she said.
While Biles has dropped hints about an imminent retirement, she is likely to compete at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
"It means the world to me" - Simone Biles on supporting Jonathan Owens in the NFL
Jonathan Owens left his pre-season training camp with the Chicago Bears to support Simone Biles at the Paris Olympics. He watched Biles win three gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the gymnast later attended nearly all of his NFL games.
Speaking in an interview with Olympics.com, Biles said it meant the world to her to be able to repay the support to Owens.
"Oh, my gosh. It means the world to me. And I know it means so much to him for me to be able to go and support his games. For him, it means a lot for me to go on the sideline before because he says that's his pre-game routine. So he's always looking for me on the sideline to give him, like, good luck vibes and wishes. That's just his superstition," Simone Biles said.
The couple started dating in 2020 before tying the knot three years later. After spending most of their time in a long distance relationship, they have been living together in Chicago following the start of Biles' off-season.
