Following her withdrawal from the Olympic Trials and surgery, Skye Blakey recently gave an update to her fans about her progress. Blakey was seen returning to the gym following the brief hiatus from the sport.
Blakely earned her spot for competing at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials (held in June 2024) after showing an exceptional performance at the National Championships, held at the Dickies Arena. She followed the legendary gymnast Simone Biles in the all-around and vault events, clinching a silver medal. Further, the 19-year-old gymnast bagged two bronze medals in the floor and balance beam events.
Poised as a potential candidate for the Games, she began her quest at the Trials, which was abruptly stopped during podium training as she performed a double layout on the floor, rupturing her right Achilles tendon. Blakely was lifted off the floor and taken out of the arena in a wheelchair.
After being forced to end her quest for the prestigious Quadrennial Games, she underwent surgery to repair her Achilles tendon. Six months after the setback, she gave her fans a glimpse of her recovered Achilles tendon while sharing a video of her performing a flawless routine on uneven bars.
Sharing the video on her Instagram story, she wrote:
"6 months post op."
Although her 2024 Paris Olympic quest came to an end hastily, she has her sights focused on the 2028 LA Games.
