Pommel horse specialist and Olympic medallist, Stephen Nedoroscik has shared how he felt on his selection to the US Olympic team. He further revealed his experience of securing an Olympic medal.

The former student of Penn State Nittany Lions, Nedoroscik recently spoke with a group of students on Student Programming Association’s annual SPA Day in HUB's Heritage Hall. According to “Onward State”, he mentioned what went through his mind when he accomplished his goals.

“I just got an Olympic medal, and suddenly all these followers, messages, positivity, and it was so black and white compared to what I had when I first made that Olympic team. It was so positive, and everyone was falling in love with this men’s gymnastics team.”

While beginning his gymnastic career in 2003, Nedoroscik ushered the United States gymnastic team to clinch its first gymnastics team medal in the men’s category in 16 years.

From his high school days, Nedoroscik started specializing in pommel horse. In 2021, he won a gold medal at the World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan and a gold medal in the team event at the Pan American Games in 2023, Santiago, Chile.

“Men's gymnastics has been a slowly dying sport in our country ever since the 80s, especially with COVID. We lost a couple of very important NCAA programs and I really hope that this moment sort of changes that path of men's gymnastics, especially because I've been seeing people reach out to me and say, 'I think that competition made me a gymnastics fan'. So, it's really nice to see the public really getting into our sport, digging into it, and enjoying what we do. And I hope that the athletic directors out there see that as well.”

Stephen Nedoroscik was born with eye disorders but did not let that deter him. He attended the Pennsylvania State University and concluded his studies with an electrical engineering degree.

Last year, he also took part in the reality show, “Dancing with the Stars” with dance partner, Rylee Arnold. It was the 33rd season of the show in which Nedoroscik and Arnold finished in fourth place.
