Elaine Thompson-Herah surprised fans with her decision to let go of the 200m at the Jamaican Olympic trials. After undergoing a series of injuries, the Olympic champion registered only for the 100m at the Jamaican Olympic Trials.

Elaine Thompson-Herah delayed her 2024 season and ran only two races before registering for the Jamaican Olympic trials. The Jamaican athlete could not perform up to her potential in both races as she finished last in her season opener at the Prefontaine Classic and registered her slowest ever 100m race since 2018 at the NYC Grand Prix by clocking 11.48s.

Soon after the race, the former Olympic champion was seen limping and had to be carried off the track for a primary medical examination. With so many ongoing developments ahead of the Olympics, her decision to let go of the 200m and defend her title at the Olympics came off as a surprise to fans.

Fans took to X to express their opinion about the Jamaican athlete's decision to compete only in the 100m at the Olympic trials.

"So no triple-double. C'est la vie!!," wrote a fan.
"This still hurts man, but makes sense considering she hasn’t a 200 since early season in 2023," a fan tweeted.
"Good decision. Running rounds of the 100m and 200m would take a toll on her body, especially if she's not 100% healthy," another fan chimed in.

Here are some more fan reactions:

"man this is so sad 😔 like legit sad --- this lady is so talented beyond measures just a pity to see injuries derail her like this," wrote a fan.
"When Shericka wins the title this year, I will officially be declaring her as the greatest 200m sprinter of all time," another fan chimed in.
" Out of all the female runners Elaine is my favorite. But in my humble opinion she'd be better off running the 200m if she's actually healthy enough to run," wrote another fan.
