Simone Biles unveiled the story behind the goat pendant she wore after her dominant performance in the all-around event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won the event on Day 5 of the Games and became the first gymnast to nab two consecutive titles in an event.
On August 1, Biles became the first gymnast to grab two all-around Olympic gold medals since Vera Caslavska. She earned a combined score of 59.131 to stand atop the podium and trounce Rebeca Andrade and Suni Lee, who claimed second and third place with scores of 57.932 and 56.465, respectively.
After delivering her exceptional floor routine, the most decorated gymnast pulled out the goat pendant and placed it around her neck. This was then followed by a gold medal wrapped around her neck. In the post-event interview with Team USA, Simone Biles opened up about the necklace and said that the necklace was "kind of an ode."
"My goat necklace is just kind of an ode because some people love it and some people hate it," Biles said. "So, it's like the bedt of both worlds. I was like, 'Okay, if it goes well, we'' wear the goat necklace. I know people will go crazy over it."
She added:
"But at the end of the day, it is crazy that I am in the conversation of greatest of all athletes, because I just still think I'm Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that loves to flip."
