Stephen Nedoroscik's pommel horse exploits fetched him two medals at the Paris Olympics
Stephen Nedoroscik produced some impressive performances on the pommel horse in what was his debut Olympic appearance. The 26-year-old gymnast won the gold medal in the pommel horse event at the US National Championships this year, and a silver medal at the US Olympic Trials ensured his qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Though Nedoroscik participated in only the pommel horse event during the team all-around event, his performance was more than enough for Team USA to secure a historic bronze medal. Nedoroscik scored a 14.866, as USA scored 257.793 overall to clinch the bronze medal. The last time USA won an Olympic medal in this event was around the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Nedoroscik took part in the pommel horse event, where he topped the qualifications with a joint best score of 15.200, alongside Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan, who eventually won the gold medal in the finals.
Nedoroscik wasn't as impressive in the finals as he was during the qualifications. However, his final score of 15.300 was enough to give him a second bronze medal. This was also USA's first Olympic medal in this event since Rio Olympics, which were held in 2016.
