Stephen Nedoroscik shared his biggest learning from Dancing With The Stars following the conclusion of the 33rd season. The Olympic gymnast was paired with Rylee Arnold and placed fourth in the finale on Tuesday, November 26.
Nedoroscik and Arnold placed fifth in the semifinals with a score of 53 and advanced to the show's finale after a surprise decision by the judges allowed all five pairs to advance. They were the first pair to dance during Tuesday's finale and performed to the song “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts.
After earning an impressive score of 29 for their first dance, Nedoroscik and Arnold performed to “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay for their freestyle dance. While they were awarded a perfect 30 score for their second dance, it was only enough to place them fourth with an aggregate score of 112 as Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson took home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Following the conclusion of the show, Nedoroscik expressed gratitude for being able to reach the finale of the show. Sharing his biggest learning from the show, the two-time Olympic medalist said it showed him the benefits of pushing his boundaries.
"I think it's just that maybe I should push my boundaries more, you know dancing, I was uncomfortable with it beforehand, and I came into this show thinking I wasn't gonna do well but I did pretty well and I think I can relay that to lot of things in life," Stephen Nedoroscik said.
The 26-year-old was insecure about his dancing skills before the start of the show but has improved massively now.
"I think, like typically anyone who has an insecurity, they kind of just avoid a certain, you know, subject or topic, whatever. Like I didn't really want to dance ever. So I was just like, you know what, I suck at this. I'm never going to do it. And then like I got the call for Dancing with the Stars. And I was like, this is too good of an opportunity to turn down. And I'm so lucky because I got Rylee paired with me and we have like very similar energy," he said in The Lightweight podcast.
"She took the stiff electrical engineer gymnast and turned him into a dancer" - Stephen Nedoroscik thanks Rylee Arnold
Stephen Nedoroscik was the subject of buzz online after delivering a breathtaking performance under pressure to deliver a medal for Team USA at the Paris Olympics. The same performance earned him a call to Dancing With The Stars, where he was paired with professional ballroom dancer Rylee Arnold whom he now credits for turning him into a 'dancer'.
“I’m just so grateful that I got you as my partner, as someone who literally wouldn’t even dance at a party. You helped me pierce through that. You gave me so much confidence. She took the stiff electrical engineer gymnast and turned him into a dancer, so I owe all my success to Rylee,” Stephen Nedoroscik said in a rehearsal video (as quoted by onwardstate.com).
Arnold called the gymnast 'inspirational' and thanked him for being her best friend.
“I just think you are such a powerful and inspirational person. You are my best friend and it’s just so cool to have that,” Arnold said.
Nedoroscik and Arnold would have been only the third pair in history to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy with one of the dancers being a gymnast.
