American gymnast Suni Lee has been sensational at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 21-year-old pulled off a stunning performance in the women’s artistic team all-around final. Team USA, going up against seven other nations, won gold.
USA went up against Great Britain, Canada, China, Japan, Italy, Romania, and Brazil in the final. Lee played a crucial role in their win.
US had won silver in team all-around at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The gold this time is a confidence booster ahead of the individual events starting Thursday, August 1. Italy and Brazil finished second and third respectively.
The performance from the gymnasts has impressed a lot of fans and celebrities. College basketball star Paige Bueckers shared her excitement on X, hyping up Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Lee for their performance.
She wrote:
"Suniiii ate the beam uppppppppppp. Suniiiiiii my favorite."
Just one emoji was enough for Biles:
"Simone 🐐."
Bueckers said this about Chiles:
"Jordan is going crazzyyyyyyyyy 🔥."
Lee had been entered in uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise in the final. She scored a splendid 14.566 points in her specialty, uneven bars. Lee also opened the floor routine rotation for the team, getting an impressive 13.533.
Chiles also looked strong on uneven bars, scoring 14.366 points, after which she screamed in joy. Lee came in right after her.
Biles has been predictably impressive in the campaign. She scored 14.366 on the balance beam and 14.400 on uneven bars.
Suni Lee to face off against Simone Biles in women’s all-around at Paris Olympics final
Suni Lee won the all-around title at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She now faces a stern test for her gold medal defense, in the form of her compatriot Simone Biles.
Biles won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and did not compete in Tokyo.
The clash will be historic: this is the first time two Olympic all-around champions lock horns in the final.
In the qualifiers on Sunday, Biles finished first with 59.566 points and Lee came in third with 56.132 points. Lee and Biles now take on each other on August 1 at the Bercy Arena, going up against other tough opponents including Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade.
