Suni Lee reacted to USA Gymnastics using her clip to celebrate the TikTok ban lifting. Lee has been enjoying her Olympic glory with fashion event appearances, brand shoots, and more.
Suni Lee was one of the headliners of the US women's gymnastics team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although she couldn't defend her all-around title, her strong performances earned her the overall and uneven bars bronze. Lee also contributed scores to her team's gold win. After her Paris trip, the Hmong-American gymnast attended fashion shows and sporting events, becoming one of eight honourees for Glamour magazine's Women of the Year for 2024.
Lee's New Year's kicked off with more brand campaigns before a new Supreme Court law banned the popular video-sharing app TikTok. As per recent news, Donald Trump announced that TikTok could be used until he signed an executive order to delay the ban. The update excited all US users, including Suni Lee, who shared USA Gymnastics' Instagram story to react to a clip featuring her.
"omg," she wrote.
The original video showed the 21-year-old emulating a happy scream. The caption read:
"when the TikTok ban is lifted and all our friends are back!"
Lee boasts 3.6 million followers on TikTok and regularly updates about her personal and professional life.
Suni Lee once talked about cooling down on social media before her beam finals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics
Suni Lee made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, and stepped up to lead the team when her compatriot Simone Biles withdrew midway due to 'twisties'. She earned the all-around gold and uneven bars bronze but before the beam finals, the then-18-year-old talked about mindfully keeping away from social media to focus on her performance.
"I'll probably cool down a little bit and just focus on what I need to do especially because we're coming to the end. I want to just do the best I can and end it off good. I'm probably going to delete Twitter. Instagram is not as bad because I can't really see what people say, but [on] Twitter it's just so easy to see everything. So I'm probably going to have to end up deleting that," the six-time Olympic medalist said (via People).
However, she claimed that TikTok can be an exception and be part of her routine.
"TikTok is my getaway app, it's just so fun," she added.
Lee amassed three World medals from the 2019 edition, the team gold, silver in the floor exercise, and bronze in the uneven bars.
