Flavor Flav has kept his promise to Alexis Ohanian by attending the Inaugural Athlos meet held in New York on Thursday, September 26. The American rapper obliged the entrepreneur's request to attend the Athlos track meet as he was seen attending the Ohanian-backed league being held at Icahn Stadium in New York.
Talking about how he felt being part of this track meet and the atmosphere, Flav said (via ATHLOS on YouTube):
"The energy here is amazing. When I walked in here I could feel the electricity walking inside this place for real. I’m getting a lot of love from a lot of people too. I went over and got to see and talk my boy D Nice, who I've known for many many many years," Flavor Flav said [32:00 onwards].
Flavor Flav went on to talk about his commitment to supporting women’s sports. Wearing a badge that proclaimed ‘Support Women’s Sports’, he further added,
“Honestly, I never thought about it. This is something that just happened. This is what God put me on this earth to be,” Flav added.
Alexis Ohanian was extremely pleased to see Flavor Flav keeping his promise of attending the event and gave a shout out to the rapper via his X (formerly Twitter) handle as he wrote:
"Shoutout @FlavorFlav for coming out!! @athlos #ATHLOS #AthlosNYC," Ohanian wrote.
Flavor Flav was one of the many celebrities, alongside 'GOT' fame Nathalie Emmanuel, former Olympic champion Justin Gatlin, and Olympic bronze medalist Fred Kerley, among others. to have graced the event.
When Flavor Flav and Alexis Ohanian helped an Olympian in trouble
The support for a women's only track league like Athlos NYC isn't the only time when Flavor Flav and Alexis Ohanian stood up for a common cause, as the two came forward to help an Olympian in distress only a few months ago.
Veronica Fraley, who competed in the women's discus throw at the Paris Olympics, had requested financial help, citing that she was unable to pay for her necessities, including her rent.
Flavor Flav volunteered to help her, only to be joined by Alexis Ohanian, who requested the rapper to split the bill between the two. This gesture was appreciated by many sports lovers throughout the USA.
Fraley went on to compete at the Paris Olympics, alongside Olympic champion Valerie Allman, who went on to defend her Olympic gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics. On the other hand, Veronica Fraley missed the ticket to the finals by a few centimeters, finishing at the 13th position overall.
Furthermore, Flavor Flav has been a strong supporter of Team USA, irrespective of the sport. When Jordan Chiles was stripped of the bronze medal she had received for the women's floor exercise, Flav announced that he would be presenting her with a memento: a customized bronze clock that no one would 'take away from her'. He kept his promise at the VMA Awards 2024 when he made Chiles wear the clock, evoking a loud cheer from the crowd
