American wrestler Jordan Burroughs has announced his return to the ring after missing out on his qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is set to compete at the World Team Trials in Omaha.

The seven-time World and Olympic champion faced Jason Nolf at the US Olympic Team Trials and lost in a tight match, 3-0. Nolf earned a takedown early in the second round and won by decision after an intense fight. Burroughs' Olympic dreams crashed, but he was quick to pull himself back up for another run.

He recently took to his X post to announce his comeback at the World Team Trials, slated for September 14-15, 2024.

"Can’t let you guys have all the fun without me. See you in Omaha," his caption read.

Social fans couldn't control their excitement upon learning about the Olympic gold medalist's much-anticipated return to the wrestling ring. One fan celebrated the return of the 'king' and wrote:

"Surprise surprise, the king is back!"

Another fan encouraged the 36-year-old to add another title to his impressive resume:

"Go get another one!"

One fan said he would be present in Omaha to watch Burroughs live in action at the World Team Trials.

"Let's Go JB! I'll be there!"

Here are some of the other reactions:

"The king has returned," a fan tweeted.
"Let’s go GOAT!!" commented a fan.
"You're a Great American. Give it Hell!" another fan's tweet read.

Jordan Burroughs didn't feel burdened to be the Olympic champion in Paris

After lifting the Olympic gold at the 2012 Games, Jordan Burroughs failed to medal at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. His future in the 74kg was questioned, but he silenced speculations with World titles in 2021 and 2022 (in 79kg). Coming into the Paris Olympics, the 36-year-old was sure that winning or losing wouldn't impact his reigning position.

"Whether I win another match or not in my career, I feel like people who have watched me wrestle understand exactly what I bring to this sport. I've won six world championships, an Olympic gold medal. I've been to multiple Olympics and I'm still one of the best wrestlers in the world - even at 35 years old with four kids at home," Jordan Burroughs said. (via Olympics.com)

He also shared that there was no pressure to secure a medal on the global stage anymore.

"I would like to win, but I don't think that [being an Olympic champion] is a burden at all. I think it was more of a gift than anything, it changed my perspective on myself and how I view the world," he added. (via Olympics.com)

Widely considered one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time, Jordan Burroughs holds the record for most World and Olympic medals in US history.
