Swimming World Cup Singapore Recap and Results Day 1: Kate Douglass smashes WR in 200m breast, Katie Grimes hits 400m free lifetime best

The third and final stop of the 2024 Swimming World Cup series kicked off in Singapore on October 31st as several American swimmers continued to rack up medals. Kate Douglass was the star of the day with a world record swim in the women's 200m breaststroke finals.

Douglass previously held the record in the event and took off a massive 2.13s from her previous time of 2:14.16 minutes. The American won the gold in 2:12.72 minutes while Alina Zmushka won the silver in 2:18.79 minutes.

Paris Olympian Katie Grimes was at her best in the third stop of the 2024 Swimming World Cup series, holding off Canada's Mary-Sophie Haughey to win the women's 400m freestyle finals. She clocked a lifetime best of 3:57.61 minutes for the gold while Haughey came second in 3:58.21 minutes.

Regan Smith continued her top form in Singapore, producing her fastest swim of the World Cup series in the 50m backstroke. She clocked an impressive 25.48s for the gold medal while Australia's Iona Anderson won the silver in 25.95s.

Leon Merchand bagged a gold medal in the men's 100m individual medley after clocking a Swimming World Cup record of 49.92s. Noe Ponti came second in 50.39s after winning the 100m freestyle earlier in the day. Merchand didn't compete in the 100m freestyle finals.

Pieter Coetzee and Duncan Scott were also in top form on Singapore's opening day of the 2024 Swimming World Cup Series. Coetzee beat Italy's Lorenzo Mora in the 200m backstroke while Scott won the 400m freestyle in 3:34.46 minutes.
