Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone gives shoutout to Gabby Thomas after seeing her on cover of prestigious magazine

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was in awe of Gabby Thomas after the American hurdler came across the 200m Olympic champion's Vogue cover. The duo competed together in the 4x400m relay at the Paris Olympics and won the gold medal.

Thomas featured in the New Year's issue of the magazine earlier this month alongside WNBA star Angel Reese. The American sprinter said it was a dream come true moment for her, and has now earned a shootout from the 400m hurdles world record holder as well.

McLaughlin-Levrone shared a picture of the Thomas' Vogue cover on her Instagram story on Monday and wrote:

"Oh hi there @gabbythomas!."

McLaughlin-Levrone and Thomas teamed up for the women's 4x400m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics, While the hurdler ran a blistering 47.71s on the second leg, the latter maintained the lead on the third before handing the baton to Alexis Holmes.

The quartet set an American record in 3:15.27 to win the 37th gold medal of the Games for Team USA.

In addition to the 4x400m relay, Thomas won the gold medals in the 4x100m freestyle and the 200m events while McLaughlin-Levrone shattered the 400m hurdles world record in 50.37s. The duo were also roommates in the Olympic Village briefly.

Speaking during an appearance on Why Not Me? Podcast, Gabby Thomas revealed that she hadn't practiced a baton exchange with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone before their 4x400m relay race at the Olympics. When the time came to exchange the baton during the race, Thomas was amazed at the hurdler's pace and said she nearly ran her over.

"For that relay, we didn't get to practice at all, so that was my first time ever doing an exchange with Sydney, and I didn't realize how she was going to be coming in that fast. There is nobody in the world who can finish a 400 that fast. I've never seen that before in my life; she came in so hot I was like, she almost ran me over," Thomas said.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone had clocked the third-fastest 4x400m relay leg in history, and Thomas was guaranteed to feel the winds blowing hot.

Both the runners signed with Grand Slam Track for its inaugural season this year and are likely to face each other if Thomas decides to try the 200m-400m combination.
