Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the most dominant 400m hurdler to ever take to the track, but that's not the only athletic event the Paris Olympics gold-medalist excels in. Recently, a video of the American acing the long jump in high school has resurfaced, and her response to it has fans buzzing with excitement.
McLaughlin-Levrone has been an exceptional talent on the track since her teenage years, starting from when she was 16 and qualified for the U.S Olympic team, becoming the youngest athlete in over three decades to achieve the feat.
Since then, the 25-year-old has gone on to write and rewrite the history books, claiming two back-to-back Olympic golds in the 400m hurdles, and setting six world records in the event.
However, before she became a global hurdling phenomena, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone had the chance to dominate another sport - the long jump. In a recently resurfaced video, fans can see the American participate in the long jump when she was a high-schooler, and achieve a mark of 6.30m.
Responding to this video, McLaughlin-Levrone hinted that she might miss the long jump more than she let on, writing in the comments section of the original post,
“I hope to try again someday!”
Tara Davis-Woodhall reacts to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s long jump video
As the video of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone acing the long jump as a high-schooler went viral, it also caught the attention of Tara Davis-Woodhall, who won gold in the event at the Paris Olympics.
While she has been unable to dominant the long jump in a manner similar to the way McLaughlin-Levrone has dominaned the 400m hurdles, Davis-Woodhall does boast an impressive record in her specialty event.
Outside of winning the Olympics, her 2024 has seen her compete in six other events, going undefeated the entire time and breaching the 7m mark at each competition.
However, the Texan is seemingly not too enthralled by the idea of her compatriot joining her in the long jump at future competitions. In the comments section of the original post, she jokingly commented:
“Please no 🙃 I beg.”
The last official record of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone competing in the long jump is in 2017 according to the World Athletics profile of the Olympic champion.
Back then, she had achieved a mark of 6.29m while competing indoors in New York. If the American truly does return to the field event sometime in the future, fans will no doubt be excited to see if she can excel in it the same way she has in the hurdles.
