Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the greatest 400m hurdlers of all-time, having set six world records in the event. Recently, the American gave fans a look at her childhood self, sharing an adorable photo that's never been seen before.
McLaughlin-Levrone first rose to fame in 2016, when she finished third at the US Olympic Trials to qualify for the Rio Games. At just 16-years-of age, the runner competed in her first Olympics, making it to the semifinals. Since then, McLaughlin-Levrone has gone on to establish herself as the most dominant hurdler the sport has seen. She won her first Olympic gold in 2020, and successfully defended that title at the Paris Olympics last year, setting world records en route to both her wins.
Taking to her Instagram stories on Thursday (January 16), Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone gave fans a glimpse of who she was before she was an Olympic champion and world record holder. The American shared a snap of her childhood self standing on a football field, smiling at the camera while rocking a red and white striped shirt and some braids.

For Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, 2024 was an incredible season. After sitting out most of 2023 due to a hamstring injury, the hurdler made a roaring comeback to the track last year. She dominated at the US Olympic Trials, setting a world record of 50.65s in the finals to qualify for her third consecutive Olympics.
At the Games, she successfully defended her title, lowering her own world record to 50.37s. She also won gold in the 4x400m relay alongside her teammates.
Now, McLaughlin-Levrone is gearing up for her 2025 season, and she recently shared an inspiring message as she prepares for her it. Taking to Instagram, she wrote,
“Walk with grace, though the path is narrow, even when peace seems far no matter the distance to go, though the flesh is weak keep walking in His will not by your own strength, walk in a manner worthy of of the calling to which you've been called even if you walk alone, you're never truly alone fix your eyes ahead, where He is waiting though valleys will come and arrows will be drawn, keep walking in faith. Walk with grace.”
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is yet to confirm her competition schedule for the upcoming season. However, the 25-year-old has signed with Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track and will be in action for the first meet of the league in April.
