"It's going to elevate the platforms of the athletes" - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone reflects on Grand Slam Track League
Grand Slam Track League will offer its participants $12.6 million in prize money across various events. Talking about the impact of the competition, McLaughlin-Levrone noted that it will provide athletes with more consistent opportunities to compete.
"It's going to elevate the platforms of the athletes that compete more than once every four years... and just give opportunities for athletes to be compensated for the hard work we put in," she said (via Reuters).
In contrast, when signing the world record holder for his league, Michael Johnson stated:
"Sydney got it right away and I knew that she would. She’s one of those athletes that likes to race on the big stage. She loves it … So, when I presented this to her—telling her she would get that same sort of vibe, audience and grand scale four times a year—she was all about it." (via Sportico)
Notably, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the 48 athletes signed with the league.
