Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recently paid a visit to her alma mater Union Catholic High School to unveil another Olympic banner following her victories in Paris. McLaughlin Levrone competed in her third Olympic appearance at the French capital.
At the Paris Games, McLaughlin-Levrone successfully defended two titles, including the women's 400m hurdles and women's 4x400m relay race. The American favorite broke her 400m hurdles record for the sixth time after registering a historic time of 50.37 seconds.
With this feat, she collected her second individual Olympic gold medal, surpassing Anna Cockrell and Femke Bol, who listed 51.87 and 52.15 seconds, respectively. Moreover, in the women's 4x400m relay race, she ran the fastest second leg of the final lineup with 47.71 seconds. The American squad dominated the race by posting a new American record with a stunning time of 3:15.27, defeating the Dutch and the British squads, who listed 3:19.50 and 3:19.72, respectively.
To honor her glory at the French capital, McLaughlin-Levrone was invited to Union Catholic High School, situated in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, to unveil another Olympic banner highlighting her prestigious feats on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Born and raised in New Jersey, the 25-year-old is a 2017 UC graduate.
McLaughlin-Levrone was bestowed with the same prestigious honor following her appearances at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Games.
During High School, she won the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the World Youth Championships in 2015. The following year, the American hurdler broke the high school and world youth best with 54.46 seconds and earned the spot to compete in her first Olympics.
Following her winning streak at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone impressed in Brussels
Following the Paris Olympics, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone showed her formidable prospect at the 2024 Brussels Diamond League. Although the Olympic champion was not eligible to compete in the final due to her absence in the earlier meetings, she was invited to compete in two invitational races in 200 and 400m.
In the 200m event, McLaughlin-Levrone clocked an impressive time of 22.40 seconds to defeat Gina Mariam Bass and Delphine Nkansa, who ran 23.01 and 23.03 seconds, respectively.
Furthermore, in the 400m flat race, the American household name dominated the lineup with 49.11 seconds, outpacing Stacey Ann Williams with 50.53s, and Andrea Miklos with 51.16s, respectively.
Interestingly, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's 400m invitational timing was better than every athlete who competed in the 400m race at the Brussels Diamond League, while her 200m invitational timing would have placed her second behind Brittany Brown in the 200m race.
