Hunter and Tara met as high school track athletes in 2017, and it was a love at first sight for the couple. They were in a long-distance relationship for several years before getting engaged in 2021. They competed at the Tokyo edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games before tying the knot the following year.

The 25-year-old shared an emotional moment with Hunter afterward with the action repeating after the Paralympic sprinter also won his maiden gold medal the following month.

The couple are now preparing for the 2025 indoor season at the Kansas State University, with Tara Davis-Woodhall also acting as the assistant coach of the university's track and field team.

"I stepped onto the track and said, 'I don’t know why I have to do this, but I have to give you a hug'. He was like, 'OK.' He was very taken aback. And that was the first time we talked," she said.

While Hunter was surprised by the unexpected first interaction, he was equally attracted to the long jumper and had messaged one of his friends that he was going to marry Tara.
