2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall recently shared a shocking update about the gold medal that she won at the quadrennial event. This comes just a couple of months after her successful campaign in the French capital.
In Paris, Davis-Woodhall clinched the first Olympic medal of her career after registering a mark of 7.10m during the long jump finals. During her campaign, she defeated the defending champion, Malaika Mihambo, who eventually finished in the second position with a mark of 6.98m. Davis-Woodhall's United States counterpart, Jasmine Moore, clinched the bronze medal in the event, registering a mark of 6.96m.
However, two months after her successful campaign in Paris, the 25-year-old made a shocking revelation as she stated that her gold medal was peeling off. She took to her official Threads account to share this shocking update after a user commented that gold doesn't tarnish.
"Actually..it does, my gold medal is peeling," Davis-Woodhall wrote.
The 2024 Paris Olympic medals were specially designed with pieces of the Eiffel Tower to commemorate the event's return to Paris. They were curated by LVMH, a French luxury goods company.
Serena Williams's husband Alexis Ohanian shares kind words for Tara Davis-Woodhall
Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams' husband and founder of the Athlos' only women's track meet, recently commented on the charismatic personality of reigning long jump indoor champion, Tara Davis-Woodhall.
Ohanian stated that Davis Woodhall's amazing personality attracted a large crowd to the stands, even when the long jump event was moved to another part of the stadium.
Here's what he said (via the Ready Set Go podcast with Justin Gatlin at 13:54):
"I was watching Tara Davis-Woodhall, who is so dynamic, and she had her section of the stadium gassed up for one of her jumps, but at the same time, there was a race happening. As a first-timer, I was torn between two storylines that I knew I should be paying attention to.”
Davis-Woodhall did not participate in Ohanian's Athlos NYC meet as she had already completed her 2024 track and field season at the Rome Diamond League in August. In Rome, she secured a third-place finish with a jump of 7.02m, ending her season undefeated in the long jump discipline.
