Masai Russell, the 100m hurdles specialist, appreciated World No. 2 Coco Gauff for sending her a gift from the latter's partner brand, Bose. Russell came fresh off her 100m hurdles win at the Paris Olympics, while Coco Gauff recently concluded her Grand Slam season with a 4R exit against Emma Navarro.
Russell, the US NCAA record holder in the 100m hurdles, finished third at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, leading up to the 2023 Worlds and Paris Games Having missed several podiums since leaving the Kentucky Wildcats in 2023, the 24-year-old fought her way to the top at the 2024 US Olympic Trials in 12.25 (PB).
Shortly after, she clocked 12.33s in the 100m hurdles and bagged the title at the 2024 Paris Games. In honor of her phenomenal track record, Russell has received a special package from Bose by the US tennis player, Coco Gauff.
She flaunted her Bose gift in her Instagram story and captioned it:
"Thank you love @cocogauff"
As evident in her story, she received a pair of Bose earbuds with Gauff's signature.
In another story, she showed off a Fenty Beauty package from the pop icon Rihanna. Russell had her name inscribed alongside a Paris Olympic torch symbol on something that looked like an eyeshadow palette.
"Name on the fenty palette is crazy. Thank you @fentybeauty," her story caption read.
Masai Russell received a third gift from Olay, an eye serum with a beautiful note dedicated to the Olympic gold medalist.
Following her Paris Olympic success, the 24-year-old delivered mixed hurdles performances. She finished second at the Rome Diamond League and third in Zurich, but her 11th finish in Silesia was far from her gold-medal standard set in Paris.
Masai Russell after Olympic win - "I’m the fourth-fastest woman ever in this event"
The NCAA 100m record holder went head-on with 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Russell touched the finished line in 12.25s and won with the narrowest margin. Although it was an unexpected win, it didn't leave the American in shock.
"I don’t want to say that I was in shock, but it’s literally a dream come true,” she said (via Olympics.com).
"I’m the fourth-fastest woman ever in this event. It wasn’t about knowing if I could or couldn’t. It was really about keeping the focus on what I could do and honestly just get through those 10 hurdles and get to the line first," she added.
Russell will look to reclaim her top spot at the Brussels Diamond League, slated for September 13-14, 2024.
