Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time, having won a total of 11 Olympic and 30 World Championships medals. Guiding her to many of her victories was Cecile Landi, and the gymnast recently penned a note of appreciation for her former coach.
Biles and Landi first joined forces in 2017, when the latter joined the gymnast's World Champions Centre after spending a decade at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy. Under Landi’s training, the gymnast clinched 13 World Championships gold medals and six Olympic medals. Earlier this year, Landi took up a new role as the head coach of the University of Georgia.
Recently, Simone Biles showed her appreciation for her former coach with a heartfelt note. Taking to Instagram, she shared snaps of herself posing with Cecile Landi and USA Gymnastics Women's National Team Physician Marcia Faustin, and wrote,
“Before the year ends, I wanna highlight these two ladies. Thanks for keeping me sane this year and making sure I never gave up on my dreams. Much love.”
Simone Biles wishes Cecile Landi for her new venture
In April 2024, Cecile Landi was named the new head coach of the University of Georgia's women's gymnastics team. While this meant that she was moving away from Simone Biles and the WCC, the gymnast was quick to congratulate her coach on this new milestone in her career.
Biles took to her Instagram stories to congratulate Landi, writing,
"Congratulations, Cecile. I can't think of a more deserving person. Can't wait to see what the future holds for UGA Gymnastics! Y'all are in GREAT hands!”
For Simone Biles, 2024 has been an incredible year. After struggling with mental health issues during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the gymnast returned to the sport in 2023, and immediately proved that she was still the best in the best, winning four medals at the Antwerp World Championships.
This year, she kept that momentum going. She started her season with an appearance at the US Classic, where she won the all-around and floor exercise events, while taking silver on the uneven bars and balance beam.
She then moved on to the US National Championships, where she achieved a complete sweep of all five gold medals. Up next, she competed at the US Olympic Trials, winning the all-around and floor, and finishing second on the uneven bars.
Simone Biles wrapped up her 2024 with a dominant performance at the Paris Olympics, where she helped Team USA win gold, while claiming individual victories in the all-around and vault, and settling for silver in the floor.
