Jordan Chiles is one of the best American gymnasts of the current generation. In 2024, the youngster helped Team USA win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and she recently reminisced about the day of her victory.
Chiles began her 2024 season at the US Core Hydration Classic, where she placed third in the all-around. After this, she competed at the US National Championships, where her best result was a second-place finish in the uneven bars. Up next, the gymnast performed at the US Olympic Trials, placing second on vault and third in the all-around, floor exercise, and uneven bars events to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
At the Games, Jordan Chiles competed on all four apparatuses in the qualification round and the team finals, helping the USA win gold in the team event. Recently, the American’s mother, Gina, took to Instagram to share a video of the after-party that was thrown for Chiles and her teammates. Reposting this video on her Instagram story, the gymnast wrote,
“The craziest day of our lives!!!”
Apart from the team gold, Chiles won an individual bronze in the floor exercise event at the Games. However, the decision was revoked, and the medal was eventually awarded to Romania’s Ana Barbosu, due to issues in the scoring.
Jordan Chiles reflects on finding her motivation for the Paris Olympics
Before the Paris Olympics, Jordan Chiles was struggling with the decision to choose elite gymnastics over competing in the NCAA. Speaking to Olympics.com, the 23-year-old revealed that she drew her motivation from her grandfather who passed away in 2023, saying,
“When I came back, after losing my grandpa, I was like, ‘I don’t think my grandpa would want me to quit right now’. He would be very disappointed in me if I was just like, you know what, I’m done. With having him in my mind, in my heart, I was like, you know what, I’m just going to continue my dream and continue to push as hard as I can.”
Reflecting on her gold medal win, she went on to add,
“It’s taught me that as many things that have been thrown at me in life that God created me to be the strongest person that I needed to be. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I think the biggest thing now is just realizing how much I’ve gone through just to get this gold medal round my neck. I couldn’t be more proud of myself.”
After the 2024 Games, Jordan Chiles has returned to the collegiate circuit competing for the UCLA Bruins. The youngster will next be in action on January 25th for the team.
