Former Olympic champion Michael Phelps attended the MLB game between the Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, on Sunday. He visited the Orioles dugout to cheer them up ahead of the game.
A video of his visit is gaining attention on social media. The Orioles uploaded the video on both their YouTube and Instagram accounts. It showed Phelps in the Orioles shirt, meeting the players and recounting his experience as a commentator for the MLB broadcast.
"The GOAT stopped by the clubhouse," the caption read.
"I grew up an Orioles fan. I'm from Baltimore. I spent a lot of time around the organization. We are in Arizona, but this is the team on every day," Phelps addressed the Orioles team.
That wasn't all. Michael Phelps also joined the Orioles' broadcast, where he recounted his association with the Orioles, his Olympic experience, etc. With Phelps cheering for the team, the Orioles defeated the Rockies 6-1.
Phelps hails from Baltimore, Maryland. Before turning up to cheer the Baltimore Orioles, Phelps was in Paris a few weeks ago to cheer for the American contingent during the Paris Olympics.
Off the field, Michael Phelps has been campaigning for stricter anti-doping rules. This comes after 11 of the 23 Chinese swimmers who were accused of doping in the last Olympics, identified by WADA [World Anti-Doping Agency] and the IOC, were allowed to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Michael Phelps' controversy with Baltimore Orioles
Michael Phelps' visit to the Baltimore Orioles' camp before their game against the Colorado Rockies was no coincidence. It was also a visit to affirm his commitment to the team, a year after he irked most of his fans with an unintentional move.
Phelps backed the Baltimore Orioles team for a long time due to his ethnicity and the team's performance for most of the seasons. However, in October 2023, when Phelps arrived for a ceremonial first pitch at the National League Championship Series, many of his fans were baffled by his decision.
It was because Phelps turned up for the game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks, neither of which he had supported before. Some still backed Phelps for the spirit of the game, while some accused him of changing his allegiance.
Phelps even took to Instagram to reaffirm his commitment to the Baltimore Orioles. His current visit to their team camp may put many rumors to rest.
