Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opens up about her retirement

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce confirmed that her retirement will take place after the Paris Olympics in an interview with Essence.com in February. She said that she needs to spend more time with her family and son.

"My son needs me," said Fraser-Pryce. "My husband and I have been together since I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me. We're a partnership, a team. And it's because of that support that I'm able to do the things that I have been doing for all these years. And I think I now owe it to them to do something else."

The Olympian had a difficult pregnancy as she went under an emergency C-section and gave birth to her son, Zyon, in 2017, who arrived two months early. She was then 30 years old and went through immense pain after the pregnancy.

"You hear about people having C-section and the pain they experience afterwards in their core. I couldn't lift any weights on my back until six months after giving birth. I had to gauge myself to not rush anything." (via The Telegraph)

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be competing next at Jamaica's Olympic Trials, which is scheduled to be held from June 27-30.
