The Netflix docuseries, Sprint, has been a game changer for track and field, and Gabby Thomas is the latest to feel its effect. The sprinter recently shared how the show has led to an outpouring of support for her, and detailed how much that means to her.

Sprint is a six-part docuseries that was released on Netflix on July 2, and has received an overwhelming response from fans. Made by the producers of the popular F1 docuseries Drive to Survive, Sprint takes a look at the lives of elite athletes on and off track, and details everything that goes into being the best of the best.

The show stars Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Zharnel Hughes, Shericka Jackson, Marcell Jacobs, Fred Kerley, Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, and Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Recently, Thomas took to X to thank viewers of the docuseries for all of their support, writing:

“The outpouring of support I’ve received from those who watched Sprint on Netflix is so heartwarming and motivating. Thank you everyone- the docuseries shows such a small part of our journeys, but so glad people are able to see a glimpse of it.”

Gabby Thomas then went on to add that she had yet to catch up with Sprint herself, joking:

“I haven’t finished it yet. I heard my voice and saw one scene with my tracks out and couldn’t watch any more 😭.”

100 and 200m World Champion Noah Lyles is another star of the Sprint docuseries yet to watch the whole thing, albeit for different reasons. In an interview with Letsrun.com, Lyles said:

“It humanized a lot of people a little too much for me. I was planning to binge this before the Olympics but maybe not anymore because it might humanize my competitors a little too much and that might not be the best thing going in with the kill-be-killed mentality.”

Gabby Thomas to take to track for the 200m at the Paris Olympics

On the track end of things, fans will get to see Gabby Thomas in action in the 200m sprint at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old sealed her spot on Team USA after winning the U.S. Olympic Trials in the distance. Thomas was originally also listed to run the 400m at the Trials, but opted out of that at the last minute.

Thomas' 200m season so far has seen some blockbuster performances. She began her season in late March, running at the Texas Relays where she won gold with a 22.08. Thomas then put up a lackluster display at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix, finishing six. She attributed her run to being in the middle of a training block, writing:

“Obviously didn’t look like myself today, it happens every season when I compete in the middle of this training block, but I committed to the meet long ago, and I just can’t pull out when fans look forward to seeing us compete. I’m okay, everything is going according to plan.”

Gabby Thomas then won the USATF New York Grand Prix, before heading to the U.S. Olympic Trials for another series of dominant performances. In Eugene, she clocked a 22.11, 21.78, and 21.81, in her heats, semis, and final respectively to be crowned US champion.
