Tennis superstar Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian recently opened up about his sprinting abilities, revealing a humorous take on his athleticism. The co-founder of Reddit is navigating a busy schedule following the successful debut of his brainchild, Athlos NYC.
Despite not knowing much about the sport, Ohanian is aiming to transform the female track. His Athlos NYC is a female-only track event with a staggering cash prize of $60,000, $25,000, and $10,000, respectively.
Although Ohanian has a passion for athletics and has frequently admired the speed and ability of top athletes, Ohanian candidly acknowledged that he is not built for sprinting.
In a recent podcast episode of Ready Set Go, Ohanian jokingly suggested that he might run better in a short-distance race than in longer events. He said:
"Did you see me walking in here? Big fella doesn't Sprint I have a better chance, let's be real, I got a better chance in the 100 than the 1500 because I'd be trotting, I just I'd take it." (27:48 onwards)
He added:
"No, I never I literally...you don't understand the only time I ran was in high school football as a punishment right and there you're just running laps you're not...no one's got a stopwatch."
After directing a successful female-only track event at Athlos NYC, Alexis Ohanian hints at adding field events too
Alexis Ohanian has fixed his gaze on making significant improvements at the next edition of the Athlos NYC. While the debut edition only featured track events for female athletes, he now aims to give recognition to field event athletes.
In the same interview, Ohanian highlighted Paris Olympics gold medalist Tara Davis-Woohall and suggested adding field events.
“I feel like we’re on to something, but obviously still a lot more to do, and I can’t help but look at some of these stars like Tara and think, God, we got to find ways for… I don’t want to,” Ohanian said [15:46 onwards].
"We’re still phase one… I’m already still thinking like how phase two goes, because, you know, I don’t ever want to half-a** anything.”
Along with a whopping prize money, Athlos NYC also featured a concluding performance by Grammy award winner Megan Thee Stallion.
