Josh Kerr aims higher after clocking a British record at the Prefontaine Classic

Josh Kerr opened up on achieving greater heights following his stellar performance at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Kerr registered a British record in the prestigious Bowerman Mile on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

After a series of smash talks between Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the two athletes faced each other for the third time in Eugene, engaging in an edge-of-the-seat showdown. The British athlete dominated the lineup with a striking 3:45.34 to leave behind his main foe, who clocked 3:45.60.

Kerr's victorious time marked a new British record. He shattered the long-standing previous national record of 3:46.32. The earlier record was set in 1985 by Steve Cram, who graced the 2024 Prefontaine Classic with his attendance in the commentary box.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and the 2023 World Champion stated that although he achieved an exceptional feat, he is not yet at his peak because of his previously faced injuries while asserting confidence in making more progress at the Paris Olympics.

"The training I’ve done is not anywhere near my peak right now," Kerr said. "I think we’re consistently moving towards the Olympics, but it doesn’t mean I can’t be fitter when it comes to these races."
You know I've had injuries past in years coming into these events and I was able to be injury-free coming into this one so these are results that are going to come when I'm you know building towards something special but 3:45 right now is good enough. But you know we've got to make some progress from here.

He posted an impressive time of 8:00.67 to shatter Mo Farah's 8:03.40 record in the Men's 2 mile. Following this feat, he competed in the 3000m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships, securing the gold medal with 7:42.98.

During the interview after his recent exploit with Citius Mag, he revealed his goal of competing at every race seriously in the Olympic year after staying undefeated this year so far.

"I want to take every race as serious as I can when I'm doing them. You know I still haven't lost yet this season and that shows because I'm going race to race and camp through camp and you know the Olympics obviously is the big goal but I'm going to take every race that I'm in very seriously and hopefully put on a show," (at 3:51).

Between Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen's rivalry, the British athlete holds the upper hand.
