Dutch hurdler Femke Bol had a successful Olympic campaign in Paris, winning the mixed 4x400m hurdles gold, women's 4x400m relay silver, and individual 400m hurdles bronze in July 2024. The 400m short track world record holder broke the 400m hurdles European record, going below 51s as the second-ever athlete after her US rival, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Bol had clocked 51.30s in her forte event the same month to break her meet and Diamond League records in the tenth DL installment in London. Soon after, she stepped foot in the French capital, where she recorded one of her most successful campaigns.
Bol and her team won the mixed 4x400m relay gold in a European record, 3:07.43 minutes. The two-time World champion won the individual bronze in the 400m hurdles in 52.15s and clinched the silver as part of the women's 4x400m relay team. In an interview with Visa UK last month, she commented lightheartedly on her Paris Olympic medals to laughter and hoots from the audience.
"They clink against each other because I have too many," Bol said.
The Olympian further shared her favorite memory from the Games and said:
"My favorite memory from Paris 2024 will be the moments with my team, with my friends and family when we could celebrate medals or be there for each other."
Bol won the 400m hurdles at the 2023 World Championships and the 400m title at the 2024 World Indoor Championships, becoming the second-fastest woman in the event's history.
Femke Bol won the 400m hurdles trophy at the 2024 Diamond League finals
Bol started her successful Diamond League campaign in 2021, bagging the 400m hurdles win in 52.80s for the first time. The following year, the Dutch athlete clinched the win in 53.03s and added another in 2023 to mark an unbroken streak.
In the 2024 edition of the DL finals, the 24-year-old stopped the clock in 52.45s and added the fourth Diamond League trophy to her stellar resume. Following her win, she took to her Instagram story and wrote:
"Thank you Brussels. Such a great meet to finish off this season!"
Bol's Olympic gold medal win led to her being honored with the Netherlands' Order of Orange-Nassau. She was one of the flag bearers for the nation at the Olympic closing ceremony.
