The Paris Olympics opening ceremony sparked a huge controversy on social media due to drag-queen-themed performance which seemed to be an apparent parody of "The Last Supper". Fans were seemingly disappointed by this performance and claimed that it mocked and hurt their religious sentiments.

The Paris Olympics Opening ceremony featured several performances throughout the eve of the commencement of the Games, showcasing several aspects of the rich culture and history of France. Over 10,000 athletes were a part of the opening parade held on the river Seine. However, the performance by several drag queens, which was an apparent recreation of "The Last Supper", sparked a huge outrage among fans on social media.

Fans claimed that their religious sentiments were hurt by the performance and it was completely distasteful in nature, considering how it contained a drag-queen representation of religious figures.

"This was my last #Olympics ceremony that I will watching. What a complete shamble Shame on #Paris2024 #Olympic2024 #OlympicGames," a fan wrote.

The last supper has great significance to Christianity and it should not be defiled. The Olympics is a great event and there is a place for people of all persuasions. However insulting a religion is not acceptable. Thumbs down 👎🏽 Paris Olympic committee. Totally wrong," another fan chimed in.

Here are some more fan reactions voicing their opinions on the performance:

" Yeah, I’m not watching a single sport or minute of the Olympics this year. I’m mortified and disgusted," another fan chimed in
" It’s horrible and disgusting!!!!!," a fan claimed.

Following the outrage, Paris Olympics organizers released a statement mentioning that it was meant to raise awareness of the absurdity of violence.

“The interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings,” Paris Olympics wrote on their X handle.
