Riley Gaines recently reacted to a high school volleyball team boycotting their match in the Northern California Division 6 tournament. The high school team had boycotted the match over the reported presence of a trans athlete.
According to a report by Fox News, Stone Ridge Christian High School was all set to face San Francisco Waldorf in a volleyball match scheduled for November. However, the school chose to forfeit the match over the presence of the trans athlete.
A month later, Gaines reacted to the situation by organizing a ceremony for the Stone Ridge Christian High School. She posted on her X handle, writing:
"3 weeks ago, Stone Ridge Christian School in CA BOYcotted their state championship semifinal match because the opposing team had a male, prematurely ending their season. Today, I spoke to the student body & honored their courage. 100% of sane people recognize them as champions."
Gaines posted another tweet in which she said:
"They may technically have a loss on their record, but 100% of sane people recognize them as the true champions. #BOYcott"
Previously, Riley Gaines had supported the educational institutions boycotting the San Jose State University's women's volleyball team. Five colleges boycotted the San Jose State Spartans at the NCAA Mountain West Conference League over the presence of Blaire Fleming, who is reportedly a transgender player.
Riley Gaines on LPGA barring trans athletes from participating in women's golf events
Riley Gaines recently reacted to the Ladies Professional Golf Association updating their gender policy. According to the policy made for 2025, trans athletes will not be allowed to participate in elite women's events.
The changes were made after more than 200 women golfers had protested against the previous policies of LPGA. Gaines reacted to the situation by posting on her X handle. She wrote:
"BREAKING: LPGA has updated their gender eligibility requirements to ban men from women's golf.
'The effects of male puberty confer competitive advantages in golf performance compared to players who have not undergone male puberty.'
The "L" in LPGA means something again!"
In a conversation with Fox News held in October 2024, Gaines had explained why she was supporting the golfers' movement. In her words,
"Let's reiterate what the LPGA stands for. The Ladies Professional Golf Association, and it really is remarkable how little regard they have for the L in their name."
Riley Gaines has been campaigning for the exclusion of the trans athletes from women's sports since 2022. The 24-year-old swimmer-turned-social activist had first come into limelight for her campaign against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
