Jasmine Camacho-Quinn recently expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate at the inaugural edition of the 2024 Athlos NYC. The Athlos, launched by tennis legend Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian, successfully hosted its first edition at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.
The Athlos NYC was a massive hit as it not only featured Megan Thee Stallion as its musical performer but also DJ D'Nice who played walk-out music for each of the 36 athletes based on their preferences.
For the athletes, a huge paycheck was up for grabs, with the winner taking home a whopping $60,000, whereas the athletes who came second and third pocketed $25,000, and $10,000, respectively. Meanwhile, the participants who earned fourth to sixth places were also awarded prize money. In addition, the winners received a crown from the meet organizers following their victories.
Camacho-Quinn, who has remained consistent throughout the season, emerged as the winner in the 100m hurdles with a 12.36s run at the first Athlos NYC to finish ahead of American hurdlers Alaysha Johnson (12.43s) and Masai Russell (12.44s), also the reigning Olympic champion.
With this, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn also collected $60,000 as a part of the winner’s purse. After her victory, she took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the opportunity and hoped that this was just the beginning for the event, writing:
“@athlos was such a beautiful event. It turned out way better than I even imagined. Thank you for the opportunity and bringing all the women together. This was the 1st but praying it’s not the last ! That’s a wrap for the 2024 season. Real consistent year but that breakthrough will come soon 🩷”
