Michael Johnson was among the many people who reacted to Christian Coleman's recent comments regarding Usain Bolt's 100m world record.
The Jamaican clocked just 9.58 seconds in the 100m event at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, a record that has stood for 15 years since then.
The likes of Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley are all set to clash at the Shanghai Diamond League. Ahead of the event, Coleman was questioned in a press conference about Usain Bolt's 100m world record. To which the 28-year-old replied:
"9.58 is obviously an extraordinary time but honestly I feel like it’s a lot of guys who are competing today who are not that far off."
A track and field outlet shared Coleman's comments on X, with their caption reading:
"Christian Coleman thinks the World Record of 9.58s by Usain Bolt's not unbreakable."
Coleman’s comments received criticism from fans for his comments but Michael Johnson had his own way of reacting to them.
Johnson said that the 28-year-old's comments could have been better-phrased by the track and field outlet that shared them.
"This would be better: 'World Champion Christian Coleman thinks he can beat Fred Kerley. World Champion Kerley does not agree! We’ll see which World Champ is right when they line up Friday. Followed by details of time and where to watch."
Michael Johnson secures $30m investment for new track league
Michael Johnson has been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes for his new track league which he plans to launch next year. The Olympic champion has been working on the project, which he got the backing from Winners Alliance last year, for over half a year now.
In a major breakthrough for the 56-year-old veteran last week, Johnson announced that he had secured 30 million dollars in investment for the new league. The league aims to elevate the sporting rivalries and give the sport better coverage.
While the name of Michael Johnson’s league hasn't been announced yet, it has already started bringing in the operational force that would be required when it kicks off next year. It has signed deals with Two Circles and SRK Strategies.
While Two Circles is a data-driven sports marketing agency that works with the NFL, Premier League, and F1, SRK Strategies will be handling the public relations for the league.
