Riley Gaines lashed out at a transgender athlete snatching 200m and 400m wins in the women's division at the Oregon Track and Field Championships. The swimmer-turned-advocate against the inclusion of men in women's sports urged people to listen to a mother from Oregon, who lives with the fear of standing up against injustice to her girls.
At the OSAA-hosted track and field championships, a transgender athlete named Aayden Gallagher competed in the women's team to top the 400m (56.14s) semifinals and earned second spot in the 200m (24.49s). The McDaniel High School student had thus secured two berths in the finals (200m and 400m).
In the 200m finals, posting a score of 23.82s, Gallagher denied the gold spot to the biological female athlete Aster Jones, who ran in 24.02s. Gaines, infuriated at this incident, had the mother of a woman athlete join her in rallying against the wrongdoing and the threats the families and female athletes have to face on speaking up.
Riley Gaines took to her X handle to post an interview of a mother with The Publica. In support, the 24-year-old former swimmer urged the global crowd to listen to the words and tagged OSAA to express how 'despicable and unacceptable' this is.
"Listen to the mother of a female runner in Oregon speak to the threats these girls + their families face if they even dare to speak out about the injustice of undeserving men stealing women's titles. This is despicable and unacceptable @OSAASports."
In the original video, the lady was caught saying:
"A lot of parents are afraid to speak out because there is repercussion from OSAA that if you discriminate, or if you put anyone down for their gender, and talk negative, it can disqualify the children from events. But it can also pick put out parents from all OSAA events."
Riley Gaines was a swimmer from the University of Kentucky, who faced trans athlete Lia Thomas at the 200-yard NCAA freestyle championship. Both tied for fifth, but Riley Gaines was denied the podium.
Riley Gaines declared Aster Jones as the 400m champion at the Oregon Track and Field Championships
After the conclusion of the 200m finals at the Oregon Track and Field Championships, Aster Jones, the biological woman athlete from Roosevelt, finished behind Aayden Gallagher. Though the latter won the gold, for Riley Gaines, the real champion was Aster Jones.
"Aster Jones is the Oregon State Champion in the women's 200m," she posted on her X handle, with a picture of Jones and her 200m scores.
