Alex Morgan has been dropped from the roster by U.S. national team coach Emma Hayes and she won’t be going to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This is the first time since 2008 that Alex Morgan has been dropped from the national team.

The 34-year-old was the notable player missing from the roster of 18 names released by Hayes on Wednesday. She has been a vital part of the team and was in action when the US won the Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games and bronze at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Alex Morgan has achieved a lot in the sport, being a three-time Olympian, and two-time women’s World Cup winner.

Following the announcement, fans voiced their opinions over the exclusion of the veteran footballer. Some believed it was a wise decision to drop her since it would allow young players to play while others believed the move was a huge blow to the team.

"Alex Morgan has been on the team for well over a decade and won silverware it’s time for others to shine. Many of the veterans are close to retirement plus she (Emma Hayes) can only select an 18-player team," one X user commented.
"After 16years. Making space for the younger players I guess," he said.
"Well her time has passed," another fan added.

Here are some more fan reactions:

"Incredible career," wrote another X user.
"Wow, that's surprising. Alex Morgan has been a key player for so long. It will be strange not seeing her in the lineup for the Olympics. 😕 #USWNT #AlexMorgan," a fan opined.
"This is a disgrace to American Soccer," another fan chimed in.

Alex Morgan expressed her frustration after being dropped from the Olympic team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Team USA’s newly released 18-player roster was released on Wednesday by coach Emma Hayes and the 34-year-old was a notable miss.

In a lengthy post on her Instagram page, Morgan expressed her disappointment but promised to support the team selected for the task and be their biggest cheerleader.

"Today, I’m disappointed about not having the opportunity to represent our country on the Olympic stage. This will always be a tournament that is close to my heart and I take immense pride any time I put on the crest," she wrote on her Instagram.
"In less than a month, I look forward to supporting this team and cheering them on alongside the rest of our country."

Eight players, who were on the USA’s roster for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, made it to the quadrennial event this year. Meanwhile, 10 members of USA’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Team were included.

United States will face Zambia in their opening match then play Germany as they have their fingers crossed to reclaim the gold won in 2012 in London.
