Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and Suni Lee are headlining the 2024 US Classic roster. For the first time since the 2016 US Championships, the three Olympic all-around championships will compete on the same competitive mat. Seeing the three defending champions share a frame, fans could not contain their excitement.
In 2020, Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics citing 'twisties', and Suni Lee, 21, seized the opportunity to sweep the all-around title that year, besides team silver and uneven bars bronze. Suni Lee kept herself away from most of the 2023 season because of kidney issues but will vie for the upcoming US Classic.
Simone Biles, 27, nabbed the 2016 Rio Olympics all-around champion title, alongside winning the vault, floor, and team gold, as part of the 'Final Five'. A total of seven Olympic medals under her belt is the most won by a US gymnast.
Gabby Douglas, the 2012 London Olympics all-around champion, became the first African-American to have achieved that feat. She was also part of the gold-winning 'Final Five' in Rio and 'Fierce Five' in London.
On USA Gymnastics' X handle, the historic photo features Suni Lee sharing the frame with her older Olympic champion counterparts, paired with the caption:
"2012 & 2016 & 2020"
Fans couldn't help but gush over the legendary frame. Comments poured in, which were a mix of love and admiration.
One fan was driven emotionally by the historic moment, which reads:
"My eyes are watering just a bit. This is historic!!"
"THE photo we’ve all been waiting for," one fan tweeted.
"Flippin’ excited to see them all back!", a user wrote.
Several fans hyped the three Olympic champions as the 'big 3' of gymnastics.
"Three legends who epitomize the meaning of the word CHAMPION," one fan commented.
"the power this photo holds," exclaimed a fan.
"The big 3," a fan wrote.
Suni Lee falls with a resounding thud at the Core Classic Hydration Podium Training
After having landed in Hartford, Connecticut, Suni Lee attempted the full-twisting Jaegar in the uneven bars, only to fall on her back, according to a video released by USA Gymnastics.
Lee aims to get the skill named, calling it 'The Lee'. One of the few gymnasts to pull off a Nabieva, she combined it with Bhardwaj to make her signature full-twisting skill in the bars.
